The Price of Candy A Women Sleuths Mystery Sandy Reid Mystery Series Book 2 edition by Rod Hoisington Romance eBooks
I don't buy many Kindle books. I will admit to being something of an e-book freeloader. I peruse the daily free offerings, pick them up if they look interesting, and rarely spend any money. So my actually having purchased this book is saying something from the start. I read the first Sandy Reid mystery, One Deadly Sister (Sandy Reid Mystery Series), and enjoyed it enough to purchase this one, the second in the series.Rod Hoisington is an engaging author who creates intriguing characters. I won't go so far as to say "likable characters"--Sandy has numerous faults that seriously irritate me. I know I would not want to be her friend. Nevertheless, as a character she is well done. The plot pacing is strong, and he does a good job of holding back enough details to keep the reader guessing as to the real culprit. It's no fun wasting my time on a book that gives it all away too soon.
Admittedly, the book has some flaws. Supporting characters such as Moran become more like caricatures. Sandy gets herself into stupid situations that she could handle better. (If I were her, I would carry a digital recorder with me *everywhere*, just in case, and record anyone suspicious when we were conversing.) If the author put some additional thought into these scenes, perhaps they could be carried off a bit more cleverly. The text also had some incorrect word usages that irked me a bit (passed/past, accept/except), but they were minor and few enough that I'm not subtracting any stars.
Overall, though, I recommend this book to fans of the mystery and cozy mystery genres, and I'll be adding the third installment in the series to my reminder list.

The Price of Candy A Women Sleuths Mystery Sandy Reid Mystery Series Book 2 edition by Rod Hoisington Romance eBooks Reviews
Started with free one deadly sister was good so I paid for thus one was also good waiting to decide about paying for others seems the plot getting to b the same
It passes the time while riding the train. Sandy is in to so much I find myself sitting on the edge of my chair wondering when she's going to fall!
I haven't finished it yet, but looking forward to it.
One aspect, I didn't care much for was the long drawn out story from one of the characters. It was almost another book in itself! )
I enjoyed this book to the pooint where I hated to put it down until I was finished. This and the other books in the series are great reads for a mystery buff like me.
The first book started out slow like a roller coaster going up the first hill, then took off. This one started faster before it took off on the crazy, wild ride. I had a few things figured out soon enough, but there were too many suspect to pick from and then the ending blew me away. I love Sandy's spunk and ingenuity. Ready for the next book in the series.
Absolutely loved! I ended up getting all of the the books in the series and reading them all! I was hoping there would be more!!!!!
I must say I am getting a little agitated with the writer for not writing more fast enough. I do believe he understands we finish his books as soon as we can get our hands on them. Buck up Rod or we send Sandy in to investigate you! Right, the mention of Sandy reminds me to review this book. I loved the book for many reasons. First, it is a unique story with no "inspiration". Sandy for everyone who knows her has landed in trouble..... again. The plot is complicated by a multitude of characters from the big shot politician with something to hide, to the beautiful and upright stripper... yeah you read it right, the upright stripper, the innocent little jamie and the new desert in town for Sandy's surprising appetite.. Kevin. Of course you will also not miss Moran and the lovely exchanges between him and Sandy. Plus a multitude of characters... Did I mention the freak boy... Well you get it... The pace is non stop... If there is one thing you may regret, it is not reading this novel... But you are smarter than that... Right?
My second Hoisington read - starring Sandy - struggling law student, a pain-in-butt egotistical, narcissistic District Attorney, and this time, a powerful, but morally weak Congressman. Fun suspense and twists like in "One Deadly Sister". Even though Sandy finds herself in trouble this time, she thinks and out-foxes the D.A. again. Only giving a four-star rating, because the car scene with the Congressman and his passenger - a Stripper - went on and on and on. Didn't add anything to the plot, and this was right in the middle of the book - almost enough for me to put it down. Despite that, still a good read.
